Client Overview
Our client, a privately owned family business based in Arizona, has been a mid-size structural steel fabricator and erector for 40 years. Aspiring to double in size over the next five years, they faced challenges in managing their increasing workload due to a shortage of experienced Project Managers.
The Challenge
In the 12-16 months prior to engaging with Govig, our client struggled to find quality, experienced Project Managers through internal resources. The urgency of their growth led them to consider hiring up to three Project Managers. As this was their first experience working with a recruiting firm, they retained Govig to search for one Project Manager, with the potential to hire up to two more if suitable candidates were found.
Our Approach:
· Conducted multiple search intake meetings, including a team visit to our client’s HQ, to understand their business, growth plans, and company culture.
· Discussed common recruiting process timelines, strategies, and interview structures to align expectations.
· Determined the ideal candidate profile: minimum of 2-3 years of structural steel construction experience and a valid driver’s license with a clean driving history.
· Identified preferred qualities: large project experience, familiarity with specific software packages, strong communication skills, and problem-solving abilities.
The Search Process & Results:
Leveraging Govig’s extensive network and search methodology to execute a targeted outreach campaign, our search efforts yielded the following results:
· 206 Contacts
· 364 Touches
· 246 Recruiting calls
· 6 Screening interviews
· 3 SO1s
· 6 Interviews total
· 24 candidates ruled out
· 3 candidates presented to the client
Outcome & Impact
Govig not only fulfilled the single retained search for this client but also successfully staffed their growing project management team with three new individuals: two Project Managers and one Project Engineer. The selected candidates brought multiple years of steel knowledge and experience, along with the preferred technical software skills and soft skills. Their ability to leverage their large project experience and hit the ground running aligned perfectly with the company’s ongoing growth plans. Additionally, the client identified future leadership potential in all three individuals.
Since their hire, onboarding has been smooth, and the new hires have quickly engaged in active projects due to their prior steel experience.
This successful placement showcases Govig’s ability to:
· Understand the ideal candidate profile through thorough client engagement.
· Serve as a consultant to a growing company unfamiliar with recruiting processes.
· Deliver rapid results in high-urgency situations, achieving three hires in 49 days.
