Finding the Right Leader for a Type A Life Plan Community

When one of the few Type A Life Plan Communities in the state—and the only one within 100 miles—needed a key executive hire, we knew the search would be uniquely challenging. The pool of candidates with direct experience in this specialized model was extremely limited, and local options were virtually nonexistent. To overcome this, we expanded our reach, conducting a national search to identify top talent willing to relocate.
Our solution came from a relationship built over a decade ago. Among the many candidates we evaluated, the ideal fit turned out to be someone we had placed years prior. Through ongoing communication, we knew they had ties to Arizona and were eager to return to a large nonprofit Life Plan Community. The timing aligned perfectly, and we were able to facilitate a seamless transition back to a market they knew and understood.
This search reinforced an essential lesson: persistence and timing are everything. By methodically reaching out to every Life Plan Community across the country, we left no stone unturned. The result? We connected with the right candidate at the right moment, delivering a solution that met both the client’s needs and the candidate’s long-term career goals.
