Leadership Spotlight: Hadley Gayles

Meet Hadley

As President of Govig & Associates, Hadley Gayles leads with a philosophy rooted in accountability, empowerment, and long-term vision. Known for his ability to balance strategic direction with a deep personal investment in people, Hadley champions a tone for excellence not just through results, but through the way he encourages others to grow, challenge themselves, and lead from wherever they are. His leadership continues to shape Govig into a place where ambitious professionals can build meaningful, purpose-driven careers.

Here are the five key insights from Hadley on leadership that reflects his philosophy and the environment we aim to create at Govig:

Which of our company values do you find yourself relying on most often as a leader?

“The value I rely on most is ‘Saddle Up.’ Leadership isn’t about waiting for the easy moments. It’s about showing up when things get hard, staying steady through uncertainty, and keeping momentum forward with grit and perseverance, to get back on the horse when we’re knocked down. The true goal of a leader is to lead people not just where they want to go, but where they’re capable of going.”

Outside of work, what inspires your creativity or fuels your leadership perspective?

“Travel and music recharge me. When I travel, I make it a point to connect with locals and hear their stories. Those conversations stick with me because they show me new ways of thinking and remind me that relationships are at the center of everything. Music gives me the space to reset and clear my head. Both experiences help me come back to work with fresh energy and an open mindset as a leader.”

What does building a strong team mean to you?

“I started at Govig when I was 25, and over the years, I’ve grown alongside so many people here. Building a strong team, to me, means supporting each other through both the positives and the inevitable challenges that come with life and work. It’s about showing up for each other, learning together, and staying connected through every season. The best teams are built on trust, shared purpose, and the belief that when one of us wins, we all win.”

What role do mentorship and coaching play in your leadership style?

“Mentorship and coaching have been a constant in my career. I’ve worked with an executive coach, Jack Daly, for a number of years, and was also a member of Vistage. Both experiences pushed me to think differently and lead more intentionally. I believe education is never convenient, but it’s necessary. The best leaders stay open to learning and growth, even when it’s uncomfortable or inconvenient. I also think that it’s important to give mentorship just as much as you receive it. I’ve learned a lot from those who invested in me, and I try to do the same for others by sharing what I’ve learned, asking the right questions, and helping people reach their next levels.”

What’s a leadership lesson you learned early on that you still carry with you today?

“One of the first lessons that stuck with me came from my interview with Todd Govig back in 2008. He told me to recognize an opportunity, act, and act boldly. I’ve carried that with me ever since. To me, it means always keeping your eyes open for opportunities in growth, education, or sales, and having the courage to take the step even when you don’t have every answer. Acting boldly isn’t about being reckless. It’s about trusting yourself enough to learn and figure things out along the way. I’d rather take action and grow from it than let the opportunity slip by.”
